After an early brekkie in the hotel we were on the way by 8am. Our main objective for today was to visit the Aircraft and Motor Museum at Sinshein. It's one of the biggest in the world. We arrived at the Museum about lunch time after some challenging navigational issues, mainly due to the fact that we were off the beaten track. However most of the ride was fairly pleasant, with a few lumps that were not too challenging if you were in the right gear to start with!
The
Museum was nothing short of amazing; 3,000 exhibits, 300 vintage cars, 40
racing cars, 200 motorcycles, 27 locomotives, 50 aircraft, 150 tractors,
numerous tanks, artillery pieces, lots of military equipment and loads of other
"stuff". It was a little
overwhelming really and you just had to pick out your main interests and walk
past (slowly) the rest. A lot of the
aircraft were set up in such a way that you could walk through them, including
the French Concorde and the Russian copy, the Tupolev TU - 144. This is the only Museum in the world with both
of these aircraft.
Our Museum-Fill satisfied several hours later, we rode the short distance to our hotel a Guest House (Gästezimmer am Burgplatz Sinsheim) where we had the facilities to cook our own food. As the Cooking Genes in the ladies had been suppressed for weeks, we had to release them, even for two meals; dinner and brekkie. So off we all went to the REWE Supermarket and purchased sufficient food for a small Army for a week.
Dinner was prepared and cooked and taken onto a tiny passage/verandah which necessitated everyone standing up if other tenants walked past. It was all good fun and we all ended up fed and "watered" quite sufficiently.
Another great day cycle touring.
