Day 31 - Tue 30 Jun: Stuttgart to Heilbronn

Estimated km: 56; Actual km: 76; Total km: 1292; Ride time: 4h55m; Start time: 8:30am; End time: 3:30pm; Av speed: 15.5 kph   18-35deg, fine, clear blue skies and sunny.   We had a bread roll with cold meat and cheese, real coffee, fruit and yoghurt in our room for brekkie to start the day.   The Mercure provided us with a coffee machine and pods which were renewed every day. The peloton got away at 8:30am and were on an immaculate bike path immediately, which is completely normal in Germany.   We rode through the park where we were yesterday past the Zoo and onto the path beside the Neckar River.   It was already warm by this time and it stayed clear and warm all day, just the way us Qld ’ ers like it. Some found it a bit too warm though.     The bike paths most of the way were smooth, sealed and well signed. Day 30 - Mon 29 Jun: Stuttgart

Estimated km: 0; Actual km: 11; Total km: 1216   17-30deg, fine and warm, some cloud.   Brekkie was at the Main Station again; plenty of choice and reasonably priced.   While the station itself is still completely operational it is also a massive building site.   By looking at some photos they have up and from our limited understanding of German it looks like they are connecting the extensive underground rail network to the Main Train Station, reorienting the lines to through lines instead of dead-ends, building four new railway stations, integrating their station into the Italy to Paris fast train project, and moving all the railway lines underground to create a whole new area of open-space and a new suburb with 250 acres of re-claimed land.   The underground and rail networks are currently separate.   We've experienced this fully integrated public transport system in other cities and it works very well.   Anyway in the meantime the area in and ar...
