Day 3 - Tue 2 Jun: Frankfurt
The morning was spent having brekkie, chatting, putting bikes back together in the conference room where they had been stored overnight, and sorting out local sims for our phones. We found Wendy's iPhone invaluable last year for navigation so we got both got our sim cards changed over this year. T-Mobile seems to have the best deal in Germany. We are now certain that two of us can get everyone lost better than one .. surely not!!
We had a good wander down to the city mall and back (7+km) just to get the legs working properly again after more than 30 hours in airports and planes. Wendy had to have her battery changed on her iPhone 5 as it was not keeping its charge for any more than half a day! Euros75 (As$110) and an hour or so later it was fixed thanks to the Apple Store, Frankfurt. It's a pity that iPhone battery changes cannot be done by the user like most other phones.
By 2pm the jet-lag was telling us to sleep so an afternoon nap couldn't be avoided. At 4pm we all met up for a shake-out ride but Gunther had some rear derailleur malfunction on his bike, due to a careless baggage handler, so we ended up with just six of us cruising along the Main River in bright sunshine. As in most of Western Europe, bicycles rule, so you can ride anywhere nearly. It was certainly great to be back on the bike in a city that caters so well for cyclists.
Dinner was Stew &
Al's pick and they chose Chicago Meatpackers Restaurant right beside the river.
Great food, Greg had salmon while Wendy had the beef, both came with salad and
sweet potato chips. The Chicago Red beer was nice too. Another relatively early night.
