We
could have easily spent more time in Bamberg, a fascinating city with a rich
history. However we've pre-booked motels
for the first part of the tour due to school holidays so we must keep moving.
After a rather late (8am) brekkie (which was very nice, and taken in another location but still part of the deal) we rode away at 9am. It was easy finding our way out and onto a brilliant bike path along the Danube / Main Canal. After a little while we picked up a nice tailwind which whipped the girls into a racing frenzy, scooting along at 25km/h. However we eventually ran into the first of many detours of the day which slowed proceedings down to a more sedate pace.
Apart
from the lovely countryside and water views there wasn't a great deal to see
today. We did take a look at the city centre of Furth, but that was just malls
and shops so we didn't stay. We arrived
at the hotel (Holiday Inn Express Hauptbahnopf) just after 2:30pm and after
some washing and a shower (carried out concurrently) we hit the lovely old
walled city of Nuremberg. Some of the
14th century walls and watchtowers remain intact to this day and being Germany,
they are beautifully maintained. After a
couple of hours and an ice-cream we were all feeling a bit weary so it was back
to the hotel for a rest.
Dinner
tonight (Stew & Al's pick) was at Ginger Restaurant Lounge Bar which was
superb. It was predominantly a Japanese restaurant, which also had Chinese and
general Asian food. Four pers had the
Bento Box (like a sample box), the others had a variety of salmon, beef and chicken
dishes. None were disappointed, both in quality and quantity of the meals.
